It is 50 years since Erwin Hymer produced his first caravan. Since then, the Hymer brand has grown in popularity and status to become the best known motorhome in Europe, and the benchmark by which buyers compare models from other manufacturers.

In the 2005/2006 season, Hymer produced a staggering 10,000 leisure vehicles with a turnover of around £250 million. With a new production line now on stream at the Bad Waldsee factory in Germany, Hymer have the capacity (and the confidence in the market) to increase production up to 15,000 caravans and motorhomes per annum.

It is against this backdrop of success and development that Hymer launched a 69 model, 8 range motorhome line-up for the 2008 season, at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, in August 2007.

It is clear that Hymer are not resting on their laurels in their Jubilee year. Whilst some models have been facelifted, others have been completely redesigned; the main points follow:

Hymer Van and Exsis-i have had a general interior facelift and a change of wood colour, with one further wood option. New locker doors, handles and upholstery make up cosmetic changes. New layouts include the 512, featuring a seating group, longitudinal seat and transverse bed at the rear. Identical layouts are available on both the Van and the Exsis-i.

C-Class overcab Coachbuilts have received a minor facelift, with new fabrics, worktops and locker handles.

T-Class Low Profiles: The range has been widened with the introduction of additional layouts on the CL range, including the island rear bed T692CL. The CL’s are firmly aimed at the competitive middle market and have redesigned interiors with new design features. The premium SL models also offer new interior styling and pearl grey external finish as standard, with optional silver paint and a choice of interior style collections.

B-Class: (UK ‘A’ Class):
6 new CL models are offered within the B-Class range, which has new interiors, washrooms and kitchens. The premium SL models also offer new interior styling and pearl grey external finish as standard, with optional silver paint and a choice of interior style collections.

S-Class: The 3 model luxury range all have the same ‘L’ shape dinette with longitudinal seat or sideboard option. Essentially the difference between the models is the three rear bed variants; side fixed double, transverse fixed double, or singles, all over a rear garage. Standard equipment levels are high; Mercedes chassis, air suspension, Alde central heating (including underfloor heating) plus an extensive options list, including external paint colours.

Jubilee Specials: The T-Class 654SL and B-Class 514SL will both be available in Special Jubilee versions. The package includes champagne metallic paint, cab air conditioning, Oyster satellite system and special interior trim.
