The first impression here is one of a comfort, as you step through the motorhome entrance door into the lounging area. Colours are warm and the indirect lighting above the lockers makes for a relaxing environment. In the daytime, a wind-up Remis rooflight offers plenty of air and light. Although you can order an optional lounge configuration and overcab bed, the most spacious arrangement is as shown here, offering social seating for at least four people.
Somehow in less than 7.5 metres, Autotrail have provided four zones – the lounge at the front with kitchen behind, then a doorway into the rear bedroom, then another doorway into the rear transverse washroom. Each area has been designed to make the maximum use of available space, so although not large, the ability to shut off areas just gives you the feeling this vehicle has ‘rooms’.
Yes, there are some compromises, such as the kitchen feeling a little tight, but it well equipped and has a reasonable amount of storage, particularly over the fridge, which may well double up as a microwave cupboard.
Through the partition door to the bedroom, the two single beds are of good size and have a prop-up feature for added comfort, maybe for TV watching as there is provision for a flatscreen to be fitted. There is access under the drivers’ side bed into the locker below and additional storage in the top lockers above. The wardrobe is located in the rear washroom, which offers just enough space to change after a shower, or you can leave the bedroom door open for extra changing space and still have privacy.
Summary:
The Cheyenne 740S has a very interesting layout, which is most likely to appeal to couples who like their own space. It’s a comfortable place for two to relax and maybe have visitors. There may even be some who find it a little too private, wanting a more open layout with less doors, which of course Auto-Trail offer on other models. Even without a garage, the provision and sizing of storage is excellent. Lighting is also plentiful and pleasing, with the added benefit of using LED which saves power.
